Children & Youth Programme

Programme of activities will include:

A series of residentials activities at Glebe House for children's and youth groups from North Down, Ards and Down Districts in partnership with community groups, youth groups and schools, addressing issues that will provide opportunities for children (8 to 12 yrs) and young people (13-17 yrs), for personal development through a supportive community learning experience, which might enable them to develop their sense of social responsibility and leadership.
It will have an emphasis on promoting positive community relations, exploring similarities and differences between young people from different communities as well as developing a sense of community and an appreciation of shared history and cultural heritage through.

  • A series of residential programmes for children and young people from North Down, Ards & Down Districts in partnership with community grps. youth grps and schools.
  • Preparatory and follow-up activities in the local communities.
  • Study trips to places of political, cultural and social significance and joint day activities.
  • Training for local leaders who are not full-time youth leaders in good community relations practice with and for young people.
  • Building relationships between local community groups working with young people which will be supportive, self-sustaining and developing for the future.
  • Ensuring initiatives are sustainable, achievable, and realistic and above all within the capacity of the young people and leaders who will not necessarily be club members or full time youth workers.
  • Sharing with community groups and young people in the area the skills and experience gained over many years at Glebe House. 



Adult Programme

Programme of activities will include:

A focus on encouraging people in local community groups and isolated individuals from North Down, Ards and Down District areas to come forward to participate in cross community activities, with an emphasise on promoting positive and productive community relations,
by sharing knowledge, experience and different cultural traditions through.

  • Study visits on topics which would depend on interests expressed by the groups but would include visits to places of historical or literary interest with particular themes, followed up by discussions
  • Day events with arts, music, storytelling and dance traditions and skills shared amongst participants.
  • Capacity building and skills training workshops for the support and development of community groups and leaders.
  • Good relations and diversity training
  • Practical work/study days, looking at political, social and environmental issues.
  • Discussion sessions with. local politicians.
  • Visits to other sustainable community projects as examples of best practice.
  • Arts Workshops sharing different and common cultural traditions.
  • Community based events, seminars and festivals
  • Community history projects which are intergenerational
